A couple years back a semi-final or qtr final game with BHP and South Pointe got far more interesting than it should have. Same with a game between South Aiken and South Pointe.
**Players from both squads had engaged in tweeting to players from each squad and in my opinion caused extra drama that it shouldn't have during the game!

Coaches can't exactly control this as a player can do what he wants with his phone. And, talk with whomever he wants to as well. I am about to sound like the old man yelling "get off my lawn you kids", but I don't like it! I think it's a bad thing and I would hope coaches would not encourage it. I mean, testosterone, high stakes, bragging rights, feeling of disrespect, etc. what good will come out of that?
It could make the game more competitive and get kids fired up - but there was nothing wrong with not knowing the kids from two hours away and then just playing a football game against them to "find out about them" before and it shouldn't be now either!

Anyone see the good in it? If so, how so?

It's a bad thing. These players are 14 to 18 years old, they are prone to say, text and do stupid things. I heard that the coaches at West and South Florence had to intervein a in a "twitter war" a few years ago. Coaches need to instill good order and disciple, both on and off the field.

SF Band Dad - I agree with you. It's bad business! I like the aspect of getting to know some players you have competed with and have grown to respect. But, it has to be used like that.
Maybe the coach insist on being friends with his players and monitors their post. They can still do what they want; but the coach is still the coach and he can do what he wants too! Including sitting a player or maybe some extra work on the stadium steps to build their endurance,LOL!

It's here to stay - but how it gets used will be burning question!

you can ban your players from Twitter I guess but they will just use sites that you don't know about. How does the NFL and college handle it?

It’s a bad thing. They’re already spending too much time on technology and not enough interacting or playing outside.

Coaches can control it .you screw up on social media win lose draw you will not play. Dont let your team down.

The new Netflix documentary about the Steubenville, Oh high school is eye opening. Social media played a role there.

What about sportsmanship? When players are disrespecting each other before the game even begins, sportsmanship is out the window, and isn't it supposed to be first on the list? Coaches can only do what their communities will allow them to do.

Agreed!

Really doesn't matter whether it is good, or bad. It is today's reality. Everyone has the capability to be their own news reporter, editorial columnist, or TV station. Just the culture that we now live in.
